This conference was built on that — on towns you can't find without a county map, on rivalries older than your granddaddy, on the simple understanding that the most important football in America happens between two oceans nobody in it has ever seen.

So you'll forgive us if we get a little protective when folks start drawing the map bigger. Add all the time zones you want. Print all the schedules you please. But the soul of this thing was poured in red clay and humidity, and it doesn't travel. This hat's a reminder — to the league, to the newcomers, to anybody who'll listen — to keep the main thing the main thing.
